Thanks to Eric for the feedback; it’s true that there is no known cause (i.e. 100% surefire understanding) of cramps. In addition to Cheryl’s point on hydration, I have also found that cramping can come from inappropriate pacing on the bike (most folks are “affected” with this “syndrome”) or poor form / biomechanics. The latter affects cramping on race day b/c you are typically so beat from the bike that you don’t run as well as you might otherwise on a normal training day.
